Wake-up call
How’s 2022 panning out for you so far? Is it what you imagined when you shut down your computer and said “goodbye and good riddance” to 2021?
Let’s begin with a fun little test
Start by standing-up. Go on…..get up!
Ok….
Sit down if you had covid.
Sit down if you cancelled a holiday or any travel plans.
Sit down if you your dinner booking was cancelled due to staff shortages.
Sit down if you couldn’t get your hands on a RAT.
Sit down if you waited in line for more than an hour for a PCR test.
Sit down if you avoided cyclonic rain or a tsunami warning.
And if you’re still standing…..go buy yourself a lottery ticket because you’re the luckiest human in Australia!!!
I guess, what I’m trying to say here is that 2022 is not turning out like most of us had hoped or imagined it would.
Yes – lockdowns and border closures are easing across most of Australia. But instead, we’re keeping ourselves distanced. We’re self-imposing invisible boundaries to stay safe. Who needs the government when you have real (justifiable) fear keeping everybody at home?
As an example – three different client groups I’m working with had in-person workshops planned in the first quarter. All of them have since switched to online environments because their teams were either reluctant to come into the office or just outright refused to do so.
Office workers just aren’t rushing back. Daniel Ziffer, a business reporter for the ABC states “Even when outbreaks waned – and in states and territories that have barely required restrictions and lockdowns – workers have largely declined to return to office desks full-time”
And while this is completely understandable (not to mention safer, more time efficient for workers and better for the environment) it’s not a reality many employers were expecting in the kick-off to 2022.
The reality is the pandemic is not disappearing anytime soon. The hope that the world would switch from pandemic to endemic (where infection rates plateau) has been smashed by Omicron*. And now, with Son of Omicron, the evidence suggests that this virus will just keep on throwing new variants at us.
We can’t keep holding out for normal. This mindset is leading to burnout.
REIGNITE
2022 is a new era. It’s an opportunity to thrive in a new economic and social environment, if you can harness it. This is not just about personal change – it’s about societal change.
RE-IGNITE is my new keynote and optional 1-day workshop to get the conversation started.
It asks employers and their people to think about how they want to work well, live well, lead themselves and lead others in a “living with covid” era.
It challenges individuals to take personal ownership over their mental, emotional and physical wellbeing as well as honouring and respecting the needs and expectations of their colleagues and employers.
Don’t just pick up where you left off in 2021.
Drive a new agenda and open the lines of communication.
Bookings for Q1 are filling fast. Contact me here to find out more and schedule a commitment free chat about whether this is the right solution for your team.
